Hello!
I'm Nakiska :)
Pronounced nah-kiss-kah, I'm an East Coast native living in the Midwest surrounded by my dogs, books, and corn! I have always had a love for books and, over the years, have developed an even deeper passion for helping authors create them. I have my Master's degree in Mass Communications from the University of Florida and have been honored to help several authors develop their books through to publication.
For years, I have been editing, proofreading, and collaborating on various projects. From blogs, social media, website copy, and academic papers to first outlines, many rounds of manuscripts, and all the way through to published books, I have worked on just about everything! It wasn't until 2022 that I realized being a freelance editor and beta reader could be an actual reality for me, and now I am so excited to be able to dedicate my time to it as a career.
QUICK FACTS!
What are my favorite tropes?
I'm a sucker for enemies to lovers, even better if there is a love triangle. Even better than that is if within that love triangle is an enemy who gets their redemption arc at some point. I love a good forbidden love, a duel POV, a fated mate/lover, or the ultimate emotional killer, the — death of the beloved side character.
As much and as many times as I will read the billionaire/CEO/royal leader falling for/saving/being the enemy of the peasant person, I do love a book that breaks all tropes and really shocks the system!
What am i currently reading?
Other than your manuscript (hopefully)?
My current read is: Leather and Lark by Brynne Weaver
what do i do when i'm reading/editing?
I settle in with my Airpods, a lovely "raging blizzard" white noise soundtrack, and get to it! Usually, one of my three dogs joins me and will offer their opinion.
ARE YOU EVEN QUALIFIED TO DO THIS?
Yesssss! I have been beta reading and editing for many years and have only recently decided to turn my knowledge and expertise into a career instead of just a hobby. My unique background and extensive education provide a skillset that sets me apart from other editors. I have training in copywriting and editing, have worked for years in the marketing world, and am a certified and experienced TESOL instructor. I am always continuing my education, and with each project I feel like I learn something new.
